American Legion Oratory

I went to a American Legion Oratory contest last night and they had two girls show up out of Six that supposedly signed up. The local contest paid the winner 400 dollars and 2nd place 2oo dollars. The fact that 2 of the six showed up is amazing but I do not think our high schools turn out quality people that are willing to study. There is a few weakness's is what our high schools turn out. I do not know how much time was put in on the preparation. There is some weakness mainly the people can not use notes and have to memorize their speech. So if a person cannot memorize all the facts it does make it rough. What I am writing about mainly is the fact that public schools will not help promote this type of activity. It always reminds of the difference between Catholic schools and public school. Public schools need some drastic changes mainly the teachers and their training. The difference is one thing- This project was involved in the neighborhood association that required an essay - I do not recall the subject I think that it was on the constitution also but it does not make any difference, the principal told the students that they had to do it where in the public schools they do not have to do anything. I understand in Chicago and Cincinatti they are starting to change the way public schools are run. I understand the teachers can be fired if the students do not learn. The point that I am trying to make is that projects like the American legion gives the student knowledge and independent preparation that would help our public school system. It always amazes me how public school teachers anda consoulers refuse to work or even let the students that project like the Oratory contest exist. enough words probably no will read this it still gets it off my mind. The teachers keep wanting more money but will they do anything that will honestly really help the student regardless of the grade involved. Don

influence of commentators righ or wrong

I have been watching and listening to people likek Hard Ball - Chris Mathews and the list goes on. It is strange how these people have thr influence and have been sold out to Big Bussinewss with the phylosiphy that they promote. it seems like they promote items that are not the real items of our troubles and if a Candidate starts to promote the right things- it seems strange how these commentators fin d a way to underhaand these candidates for president etc as big corporations that own the network can find a way to cut these people down. This always remind me of the campaign agaist Bill Clinton some body said it was over sex which they almost got him on but really it was over making the Corporations and rich pay their share of taxes. Just they they was only president that balanced the budges aand paid the bill.It is too bad that we have a media that protects the big boys and goes after the Little guy. The average person does notr realize how they are being used and abused. Just look at the amount of jobs that have gone to other countries. Credit cards are not the answer just like computers are not the answer in gradee scnhools especially with our dumb so call teachers. I wonder what the job is of the news media. It seems like they have sold their sole to big busness and have been propragandist instead of actual news reporting especially news reporting. I am wondering how long caan this country last especailly with a decent economy. It is sure going down the drain. They keep blaming mediccair for the financial troubles in this country. When it is wars like the Iraq adventure of Preiident Bush that is destroying this country both financially and our rights as Citizens. There is a man thnat reallhy belonged in jail for all the lies that was told to the Americaan people in order to go to was for political purposes. I could go on and on what the Republicans have done to this country. I really need to include in the troubles of the lousy education fostered on the American people. Litterly dumb grade schools . Oh well I have writtern enough in the past so here I am repeating myself. I wonder if this does any good as I see positive changes come so slowly. Don
